ARTS PROGRAMME

Clockenflap’s Arts programme is an essential part of the festival experience, serving up a spectacular selection of Instagrammable attractions and eye-opening audiovisual entertainment.

Anne Cubberly’s Giant Puppets (Roaming Sat & Sun, see schedule above)

Keep your eyes peeled at this year’s Clockenflap and you might just spot Pinto Bean and Lima Bean, a pair of giant cat puppets created by master of the art Anne Cubberly. The two larger-than-life characters will be roaming around the festival site all weekend, getting up to good-natured mischief and interacting with anyone they encounter.

Alchemy Décor (Installations)

The brainchild of Asher Gunzburg, Perth-based Alchemy Décor is known for its large-scale canopies that provide shade from the sun while showcasing eye-catching pieces of art. For this year’s festival, Alchemy Décor is crafting two 15-metre canopies that will create an immersive and enchanting space where festivalgoers can chill out against a visually stunning backdrop.

Heart to Heart (Roaming Fri, Sat & Sun, see schedule above)

The winner of this year’s Open Call, Heart to Heart is a mobile confessional booth and interactive installation from the enigmatic mind of multimedia artist Heart White. Festivalgoers are encouraged to enter the booth and share their personal quandaries or secrets in an intimate space with the freedom of anonymity. The booth was created to act as a portal to open communication, whilst igniting greater conversations surrounding mental health, self-expression, and community.

Relentless Melt No. 30 (Playing on Harbourlfap & Orbit stage screens throughout the festival)

Co-curated by Clockenflap’s artistic director Jay Forster and video artist Max Hattler, Relentless Melt No. 30 serves up a special selection of abstract and psychedelic films to ignite your imagination. As well as works by Hattler himself, the programme features films by international artists Jonathan Gillie and Robert Seidel, and emerging Hong Kong artists such as Huang Xiaowen and Wyatt Lau Tsun Wai. The videos will be playing on Harbourlfap & Orbit stage screens throughout the festival.

(RE)HABITATION by Videotage (Playing on Harbourlfap & Orbit stage screens throughout the festival)

Founded in 1986, Videotage is a leading Hong Kong-based non-profit that specialises in the promotion, presentation, creation and preservation of new media art across all languages, shapes and forms. And for this year’s Clockenflap, the organisation will be on hand to offer attendees a slice of the bygone Victorian Age in the form of unique ambrotype photographs. As well as capturing festivalgoers individually, Videotage will compile a collective “portrait” of the Clockenflap crowd by consolidating these images digitally.
